BREAKING NEWS - It's Marathon
Time!!!!
(Last updated 28/06/2010)
Our good friend Gio is running the
Dublin Marathon for Georgina. We are absolutely thrilled. Gio has
some words for her family and friends:
"I
remember the last 4 miles of the London Marathon this year far too
clearly. Every foot strike was agony, I daren't stop to take off my
trainers to look as I knew I wouldn't restart. When I got to the end
and stumbled around to Horse Guards Parade I then found I couldn't
actually bend my legs to sit down. I stood for another 40 mins
waiting for my family to turn up to help lower me to the ground to
remove the trainers to reveal some wicked blisters!! And you ask why
I am doing it again in Dublin?"
"It's for a very special
girl, Georgina! You all know about the charity, it's there to make
sure that Georgina has everything she needs so that Ian and Tania
can focus all their love and attention on her and Jessica.
My London experience is meant to make you feel just a little
bit sorry for me and give more money J. I don't have to train in
the winter for this one, but my 16 week training plan starts next
week, so please dig deep - it's a really special charity and I am
really chuffed to be able to help Georgina's
Gang!"

much!

Keep your eye out for our very own committee member Joe Hind,
who is in training for the Guernsey marathon later in the
year.

Also, a big thanks to Andrew Watchman and Marc Beavan who recently completed
the Guernsey half marathon in very good times and kindly promised a
share of their proceeds to the gang.
ABOUT GEORGINA'S
GANG
 |
This web-site has been set-up by the Guernsey charity
Georgina's Gang (Guernsey Charity number 316). It is dedicated
to Georgina Pearce, our much loved girl who was diagnosed with
the incurable condition Niemann-Pick Type C when she was 11
years old. Please click on any of the links on the left to
find out more about Georgina herself and fund raising events
past and present organised by the charity. Other web sites
currently provide far better and up-to-date information on the
disease itself than we could, but we have included a clip by
Dr Marc Patterson on the page Georgina's Story.
We recommend that you look at the sites Niemann-Pick Disease
Group Uk or Hope For Hollie
for more information. |

The name Georgina's Gang was chosen by her younger sister
Jessica, 8. Here she is on the right with Georgina. The
charity was the idea of some very dear friends of Georgina,
intended to take the pain and worry out of the additional
expense of building nursing premises and purchasing the
specialised equipment that Georgina needs as her condition
deteriorates. It allows her parents Tania and Ian to
concentrate on ensuring that the family enjoy their lives to
the full. Tania and Ian cannot express their gratitude enough
for such kindness. |
 |
|
They would like to make it known in no uncertain terms that
they would like to build upon the success of the charity
and keep Georgina's beautiful face at the
forefront of minds by raising funds for other worthy
Guernsey causes in the future. They are determined to repay
the kindness shown, although for now they must of course
concentrate on the day-to-day care for Georgina and their
family. This has been a key message conveyed by Ian and Tania
at both Hint of Pink balls arranged by the charity.
It was the express wish of Tania and Ian in setting up the
charity that a proportion of the funds be donated regularly to
the Niemann-Pick Disease Group Uk in aid of research into a
cure for this, and other similar diseases. |
|
Georgina and Jessica present a cheque for £1,500 to
Toni Mathieson of the Niemann Pick Disease Group (UK).
The amount represented 10% of the money raised by the
charity at the time of issuing the cheque. A further
cheque for £1,500 was sent recently.

One year ago Tania had
to give up work to provide 24 hour care for Georgina. The
family knew that significant investment would be required to
transform their home into a safe environment for Georgina with
a purpose-built extension. One year later, thanks to the
kindness of the people of Guernsey this has been
achieved at a minimal cost to the
family through the numerous events
listed on these pages, the generosity and effort of all those
involved in the build, and especially the management and
guidance of the project provided by Brian Tyrrell of
Tyrrell-Dowinton Associates, and RG Falla. Tania and Ian can
concentrate on Georgina's welfare without the financial
concern of the build or the specialised equipment (thanks also
to the States of Guernsey , who have provided some of the more
critical equipment in the extension).
Above all, the family would
like to thank Sarah Mead and the committee. If it had not been
for Sarah's determination to help Georgina in the first place,
the thought of a charity would never even have been
entertained, and it is hard to envisage where the family may
be now with the building. Tania and Ian hope that the charity
can continue to bring assistance to other worthy causes as a
thank-you for all the help they have
had.
