A happy new year from Ian,
Tania, Georgina, Jessica and the committee to everyone who
have helped to make this such a memorable year. One year ago Tania had to give up work to
provide 24 hour care for Georgina. The family knew that
significant investment would be required to transform their
home into a safe environment for Georgina with a purpose-built
extension. One year later, thanks to the kindness of the
people of Guernsey this has been achieved at a minimal cost to the family
through the numerous events listed
on these pages, the generosity and effort of all those
involved in the build, and especially the management and
guidance of the project provided by Brian Tyrrell of
Tyrrell-Dowinton Associates, and RG Falla. Tania and Ian can
concentrate on Georgina's welfare without the financial
concern of the build or the specialised equipment (thanks also
to the States of Guernsey , who have provided some of the more
critical equipment in the extension).
Above all, the family would
like to thank Sarah Mead and the committee. If it had not been
for Sarah's determination to help Georgina in the first place,
the thought of a charity would never even have been
entertained, and it is hard to envisage where the family may
be now with the building. Tania and Ian hope that the charity
can continue to bring assistance to other worthy causes as a
thank-you for all the help they have
had. |

This web-site has been set-up by the Guernsey charity
Georgina's Gang (Guernsey Charity number 316). It is dedicated
to Georgina Pearce, our much loved girl who was diagnosed with
the incurable condition Niemann-Pick Type C when she was 11
years old. Please click on any of the links on the left to
find out more about Georgina herself and fund raising events
past and present organised by the charity. Other web sites
currently provide far better and up-to-date information on the
disease itself than we could, but we have included a clip by
Dr Marc Patterson on the page Georgina's Story.
We recommend that you look at the sites Niemann-Pick Disease
Group Uk or Hope For Hollie
for more information. |

The name Georgina's Gang was chosen by her younger sister
Jessica, 8. Here she is on the right with Georgina. The
charity was the idea of some very dear friends of Georgina,
intended to take the pain and worry out of the additional
expense of building nursing premises and purchasing the
specialised equipment that Georgina needs as her condition
deteriorates. It allows her parents Tania and Ian to
concentrate on ensuring that the family enjoy their lives to
the full. Tania and Ian cannot express their gratitude enough
for such kindness. |
 |
|
They would like to make it known in no uncertain terms that
they would like to build upon the success of the charity
and keep Georgina's beautiful face at the
forefront of minds by raising funds for other worthy
Guernsey causes in the future. They are determined to repay
the kindness shown, although for now they must of course
concentrate on the day-to-day care for Georgina and their
family. This was a key message conveyed by Ian and Tania at
the Hint of Pink launch ball for the charity.
It was the express wish of Tania and Ian in setting up the
charity that a proportion of the funds be donated regularly to
the Niemann-Pick Disease Group Uk in aid of research into a
cure for this, and other similar diseases. |
|
Georgina and Jessica present a cheque for £1500 to
Toni Mathieson of the Niemann Pick Disease Group (UK).
The amount represented 10% of the money raised by the
charity at the time of issuing the cheque.

GEORGINA ENJOYING HER NEW
ROOM!
Georgina spent her first night in the new room on Tuesday
27th October. She loves it so much that it is proving a bit
hard to get her out of it at times! Television at the foot of
the bed showing the Disney channel playing non-stop episodes
her beloved Hannah Montana, Wizards of Waverley Place, Phineas
& Ferb, Sonny With A Chance etc - she's loving it!! One
particular weekend day springs to mind when she took her
breakfast and lunch in bed in her new 'palace'. Rest assured
that was a one-off and we will be ensuring she remains active
as much as she should.
The wet-room is particularly fantastic. It has helped
maintain not only Georgina's hygiene, but also the general
house hygiene a great amount. Although still a little
resistant to being washed this is more Georgina paying lip
service to being difficult (one of her favourite pastimes).
She seems to understand that this is a far safer and enjoyable
environment.
Please go to the Progress page
we updated with photos and thanks to those helping.
